Wish Granted: Your Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist

The weather is getting warmer, the flowers are blooming—spring is here! Now is the best time to dust off the cobwebs of winter and begin a fresh and clean start to a new season. Don’t know where to begin? We’ve compiled an ultimate spring cleaning checklist to take you room by room, making it easy check off tasks as you go. (Print and save to keep it handy every year!)

Preparation

Deep cleaning your home can feel daunting so start with some preparation before diving in. Restock your favorite cleaning essentials including soaps, cleansers, sponges, mops and whatever else you need. Make a list of priorities, put on your favorite tunes and let’s get to work. Pro Tip: Start from top to bottom. Leave the floor as the last task so you don’t have to do it more than once.

Kitchen
    • Dust light fixtures, blinds and ceiling fans.
    • Clean windows and windowsills
    • Remove everything from each cabinet and drawer. Clean both the inside and outside of each with soap and damp cloth.
    • De-grease backsplash.
    • Wipe down walls and baseboards.
    • Deep clean oven.
    • Remove crumbs from toaster.
    • Clean inside and outside of microwave.
    • Clean and de-grease stovetop.
    • Empty refrigerator and freezer, clean inside and out.
    • Discard old and expired food in pantry, refrigerator and freezer.
    • Sharpen knives.
    • Deep clean cutting boards.
    • Clean and shine faucet, sink, and clean the drain.
    • Deodorize and disinfect garbage can.
    • Clean and disinfect countertops.
    • Sweep, mop and disinfect floors or hire a professional.
    • Hire a professional to reseal grout if necessary.
Bathrooms
    • Dust vent covers.
    • Wipe down cabinets, walls and baseboards.
    • Scrub mirror with glass cleaner.
    • Remove all items from vanity and drawers and scrub insides with soap.
    • Toss expired personal care products and makeup.
    • Dispose of old medications safely.
    • Clean makeup brushes.
    • Wash towels and bathmat in hot water.
    • Wash shower curtains and replace liner if applicable.
    • Deodorize and disinfect toilet bowl.
    • Clear sink and shower drain.
    • Clean and shine faucets.
    • Clean showerhead.
    • Clean and disinfect tub and shower.
    • Scrub tile grout or hire a professional.
    • Spray anti-mold cleaner on shower doors and walls.
    • Sweep and mop floors.
Living Areas
Bedrooms
    • Dust blinds, ceiling fans and vents.
    • Wash windows and clean windowsills.
    • Clean and dust walls and baseboards.
    • Clean and vacuum curtains or hire a professional.
    • Dust and polish furniture.
    • Declutter and organize closets and drawers.
    • Donate unused clothing.
    • Clean and sanitize toys if necessary.
    • Wash bedding including sheets, mattress pad, duvets and bed skirts.
    • Launder, replace or dry clean pillows.
    • Vacuum and flip mattresses.
    • Vacuum, mop and deodorize floors (hire a professional to take care of it).
    • Shampoo rugs or carpets or hire a professional.
The Extras
    • Clean and sanitize doors handles and light switches.
    • Replace air filters and schedule an air duct cleaning
    • Replace light bulbs where needed.
    • Test and replace smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries.
    • Schedule an A/C cleaning and maintenance check to make sure your system is ready for summer weather.
